Empowering Tip: Accept & live for yourself

Today’s quote is amazing, and it’s my mantra right now.  Dr. Steve Maraboli, a speaker, author and Behavioral Science Academic, says, “When I accept myself, I am freed from the burden of needing you to accept me.”

This is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately.  We live in a society where we need others to accept us – to be in the “popular” group.  We need people’s approval.

But what if we just start approving of ourselves?  We dress for others, act for others, do things for others – why don’t we start doing for ourselves?  We matter, too – why should we be living our lives trying to make other people happy, when that might not make us happy?

So the next time you look in the mirror, say your name and say, “I accept you.”  Whenever you’re feeling down, tell yourself, “Name, I accept you.”

We’re all different, and that’s what makes us unique.  You don’t want to be like someone else – duh, that’s boring!  Be your own person!  Don’t let other people get you down.

Your true friends are the ones who are going to accept you when you accept yourself.  But they can’t accept you until you love yourself.  So look in the mirror and accept yourself as awesome!  If you’re not feeling that way, then find one good thing that’s going to happen that day.  You’ll get there!
