Empowering Tip: Listen to learn

This week’s Empowering Tip is from the Dalai Lama – a truly inspiring person!  He says, “When you talk, you are only repeating what you know; but when you listen, you may learn something new.”

Now I know – a lot of these quotes, they’re pretty straightforward, you can figure them out on your own.  You may think they’re supposed to be super-deep and really make you think.  But no.  Most of them are right up front, you listen to them and think, “Yeah, that makes sense.”

But you have to take the messages to heart, and that’s hard.  You may think, “That’s easy – meh.”  But guess what?  This stuff isn’t easy – meh!  It isn’t easy because it’s one thing to understand what the person is saying in their quote … and it’s another to really embrace that and use it to help us in our own lives.

Right now, I’m talking and repeating what I know … but I have to listen if I want to learn, to have new experiences, to overcome my fears.  You may think someone doesn’t have anything to say – but stop, and listen, and you never know what you may discover.

If you feel like you just want to talk about the stuff you know, take a step back and listen.  You never know what you may learn.

So come on – let’s do some listening!
